Cross Gene are convicts hunting for bullets and a human sanctuary in a zombie-ridden world. Inside a courthouse, they get chased by zombies and meet a strange little girl. Takuya gets bitten on the neck, much to Shin's narm-y agony.
Shin continues to hug Takuya/Takuya's neck and boo-hoo dramatically and bare his teeth while everyone looks on soberly. I get that Shin should be kind of upset that his friend is dying but we haven't seen much evidence that they're that close so far so there's no reason for him to be that upset unless their relationship is something more than friends *cough*
Anyway it's horribly dramatic and whatnot as everyone waits for Seyoung to shoot Takuya (and Shin too, if he doesn't detatch himself from Takuya's infected neck). But suddenly Anna steps in front of Shin and Takuya and dramatically throws her arms out. Seyoung tells her to move her butt or he'll plaster her brains on the wall (OK, he actually just tells her to move), but Casper steps up and asks him to give Takuya more time. So Shin can give him a goodbye kiss, I guess. All of a sudden, zombies start pouring out of the window nearby, and the guys change their minds really fast and run away.
They take refuge in a room lined with jail cells. On the door is a sign that's very clearly English. So where is this supposed to be set then?? If China, couldn't they have taken down the *obviously* English signs and replaced them with Chinese ones? Or is the English in keeping with the "everyone can understand every language" thing?
Youngseok stares blankly (but cutely) at the zombies that are ineffectually bumping against the door while everyone else argues about what to do with Takuya. Casper says that Takuya got bit because they were "selfish idiots" and Sangmin says that Takuya "always made sure they were one." [lol] Informed Attribute, perhaps? They tie Takuya (who has already turned into a zombie) to a chair and put him in a cell.
In the next scene, Youngseok and Sangmin line up their bullets (to count them, perhaps), but Anna knocks them over. Brat. Yongseok protests, and Anna merely says "You're no fun." [??] Yongseok (rather reasonably) notes that she should have said thank you for being rescued (tho they did a pretty sucky job of it). Sangmin points out that it's basically her fault that Takuya got bit.
Anna wonders if they're "bad" because they're wearing orange prison jumpsuits. [lol] No, they're not exactly bad guys, but some of their MVs/dances could be classified as weapons of mass destruction (in a bad way), like Amazing Bad Lady
and Billion Dolla (from this movie).
while other groups' MVs/dances could be classified as WMD (in a good way). Like History's Might Just Die,
VIXX's Chained Up,
VIXX's Hot Enough,
Lay's Miss You Much, etc.
(hey, I don't go looking for sexy MVs, OK?? I know of hardly any). And no, I'm not putting gifs of History and Lay humping the floor in my blog post. I'll sell out eventually, but not today.
Youngseok points at Sangmin and asks if Sangmin looks like a bad guy, and Sangmin replies with aegyo.
Impressed by Sangmin's show of cuteness, Anna decides he's not bad. Sangmin says that the jumpsuits are a "mistake." Oh, you mean like Suho's blond(e) hair in Overdose?
And whatever the heck EXO is wearing in this version of Growl?
And the FREAKING SKIRT Hoya's wearing in Destiny??
Apparently, Cross Gene was incarcerated for crimes they didn't commit, and while they were in jail, the world went to the zombies. Anna says she doesn't "get it", and Sangmin and Youngseok agree. I agree too. Casper returns after a fruitless search for ammo (yeah, like there'd be any in a block of jail cells?), and tells Seyoung they don't have enough to keep fighting. Casper picks up a book and messes around with it. Seyoung asks him if he reads books. Casper replies in the negative. "I have no interest in the written word. I prefer moving images." [LOLOL]
Back to Anna, Youngseok, and Sangmin. Youngseok cutely asks "What breaks if you say its name?" (I know this one). Anna correctly guesses that it's silence. Impressed with Anna's mind-blowing mental prowess, Youngseok (SO HARD TO TYPE GAAAAH) asks her the "four legs in the morning, two at noon, three at night" riddle. Anna guesses right again. Yes, I learned Greek mythology as well. Sangmin is significantly impressed by Anna's smarts (no, he really is), and Anna says that "only dumb people can't figure out the answers." OOH BURN! Poor bby Sangmin--he's the only remotely likable character in this (besides Youngseok I guess, and that's probably only because I think Youngseok is hot).
Shin tries his hand at riddle-giving; he tells Anna the "riddle" that they have to solve to find the sanctuary. She solves it, naturally. Well. At least she's useful and not a worthless pile of meat. She figures out that the first part of the riddle means every Tuesday at 17:00 (stupid military time) and the road where there's no road means the ocean. [??] Casper says that that day is Friday, so they need to get there before next Tuesday.
Anna says that her mom's map (which she gave to her precocious little daughter before she kicked the bucket) can help her solve the last part of the riddle, but she has to go get it from its hiding place elsewhere in the building. They decide to go in the morning.
That night, Sangmin is snoring and talking in his sleep when Shin wakes him up and drags him to Takuya's cell. Billion Dolla is playing, and Shin points out that Takuya understands and reacts to music. I will say one thing: I'm not in danger of becoming a zombie (currently) but every time I hear that song, I want to scream and turn into one of those fast rage zombies from 28 Days Later. It sounds like a robot barfing. Shin says that "maybe...music can save him."
"Kill me NOW." |
Seyoung, who is sitting by the cell door, is like "Is it that simple?" [lol] Yeah, and it's also convenient--just play any random pop crap (not to imply that Cross Gene is random pop crap in any way) over a stadium sound system and all the zombies change back. Poof. Nice and simple, right?
Seyoung snidely notes that Takuya is "suffering." Yeah, because of the "music", not because he's a zombie. Seyoung rationally points out that if song and dance" could save the zombies, it would have happened already. Sangmin says "who would have thought of such a silly idea?" [lol] At least they're self aware. Go Sangmin! Seyoung agrees with Shin that if there's a chance of saving Takuya, they should try.
Dramatically, he goes into another cell, dusts off a baby baby grand piano (seriously, it's like a toy) and starts playing it. It sounds like a cross between a crappy xylophone and a harp. So a baby baby grand harpsichord I guess? Casper wakes up, and instead of screeching at Seyoung's
